Retail Buying Jobs
Retail buying jobs require professionals to select and purchase merchandise for a retail establishment. A retail buyer should be well versed with the current and upcoming market trends and review product offerings from vendors and order merchandise taking into consideration customer requirements, profit, and risks so as to optimize the sales volume. Other responsibilities of a retail buyer include contract negotiations, stock management, buying, payment of stock, and coordination with the operations and sales team. A retail buyer should establish strong vendor relations; should be very skilled in negotiating prices; and should carry out competitor analysis at stores on regular basis. A retail buyer is responsible for planning budget and presenting sales figures for the new merchandise.
A retail buyer should have a bachelor's degree, preferably in merchandising with prior experience in buying and planning. Good organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills are required. A good understanding of retail math metrics is important. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Outlook, RMS POS system, AS400, and RAMP retail systems is an advantage.
