The Enterprise Portfolio Management role is responsible for providing leadership and support to all program and projects in the Enterprise Project Management Office (ePMO) portfolio. This role will support enterprise portfolio management with executing the ePMO processes, supporting business case development, ensuring proper project accounting and providing project management mentorship to Business Leaders and PMs across the enterprise to enable business-driven results.
Additionally, this role will be responsible for assisting in identifying and recommending process improvement opportunities across the organization.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Serve as a subject matter expert for ePMO process, our ePMO portfolio and business case development
Support the execution of the ePMO portfolio management process including ensuring our portfolio of projects throughout various areas of the business have solid business cases and visibility to all resources needed to enable successful project delivery.
Ensure ePMO prioritization and approval decisions are effectively cascaded throughout the organization to key stakeholders. Also, in close partnership with FP&A analysts, work with project teams on next steps and identify key project deliverables necessary for project funding approval (e.g., scope definition, project organizational structure, budgets, success metrics, etc.).
Provide portfolio management analysis and assessments on how to improve the health of our project portfolio (financial and/or delivery execution)
In partnership with the ePMO director, increase the maturity of our Enterprise Project Portfolio Management at PetSmart, including but not limited to influencing the use of project management best practices, identifying project dependencies/risks across the portfolio, improving financial management/reporting, improving project prioritization methods, and introducing enterprise resource management (future state).
Provide recognized thought leadership and points of view on a broad range of areas (e.g. Retail, Project and Program Management, Portfolio alignment, process improvement) across the enterprise
Provide mentorship and coaching to Program and Project Managers throughout the Enterprise
Drive consistency and delivery excellence by influencing the use of project management best practices on projects and encouraging the use of standard PM tools and templates
Establish close partnerships with Project leadership, PM’s and Financial analyst and share project related updates/details throughout FP&A and Finance leadership on a regular basis.
Participate in Steering Committee meetings and/or Project Leadership team meetings for identified projects to support the execution of ePMO projects
Ensure that all projects information is collected and reported regularly via EPMO process as well as the defined project communication plans
As needed, support ePMO projects to succeed by engaging with stakeholders at all management levels and influence alignment of divergent stakeholder expectations.
Supervise and provide guidance to an analyst, who will assist in the ePMO portfolio management process and perform other work activities.
Skills and Qualifications:
In depth knowledge of project management methodologies (Waterfall & Agile/Scrum)
Experience with Project Portfolio Management processes and tools
5 years of supervisory/managerial experience and complex program management experience with a proven track record of delivery
Strong business and financial acumen
Strong Business Process and Change Management skills
Proven ability to build strong and lasting partnerships
Ability to provide thought leadership, influence (without authority) and build consensus
Great interpersonal skills, especially communication skills
Demonstrated willingness to take a stand on important issues and champion ePMO process with all levels of the organization
Demonstrated strong follow-through on work
Ability to operate effectively in a matrix organization; is comfortable with ambiguity
Ability to lead (provide direction and structure), network, and influence all levels across an organization (horizontally as well as vertically within an organization)
Demonstrated ability to identify, organize and drive process improvement
Solid knowledge of project financial metrics and aptitude to learn financial accounting as it relates to project spend
Strong communication (written and verbal) and presentation skills required
Proficient in use of Microsoft applications including Microsoft Project, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel
Experience with SAP Project System and reporting, a plus
