RetailCrossing Adds Thousands of Retail Jobs, Even as Starbucks, AutoNation Announce Layoffs

Pasadena, CA — RetailCrossing, an affiliate of EmploymentCrossing, which is one of the world’s leading job boards, has recently added thousands of jobs to its ever-growing database. While Fortune 500 retailers and many other major companies are being forced to downsize their workforces by varying amounts, RetailCrossing recently added an incredible 6,355 jobs in a single week! Seattle coffee giant Starbucks just announced its first-ever quarterly loss in its 16-year history, losing a whopping $6.7 million in the second quarter. Starbucks has also decided to cut its workforce by 1,000 employees, following its decision to shut down 600 stores in the US on July 17. Meanwhile, New York-based Office Depot reported a second quarter decline of around $2 million in consumer spending, a loss of a penny per share. AutoNation, the number one US retailer, is aiming to cut costs by $100 million by cutting 1,300 jobs.

In other news, the department store chain Mervyns has declared bankruptcy. Staggered by a weak economy, escalating retail job losses, and higher gasoline prices, numerous and retail stores have had to cut spending, including major companies like Office Depot, OfficeMax, and Staples.

''This is indeed a sad picture of the retail industry in the US. Mid-tier retailers like Shoe Pavilion, Sharper Image, Steve & Barry's, and Linens 'n Things are all in danger of going bankrupt'' says Harrison Barnes, CEO of RetailCrossing. ''But there is light at the end of the tunnel in the form of RetailCrossing, which aspires to list every possible active retail job opening in the industry. The top job types present in RetailCrossing’s database in July were:

• Retail manager jobs (15,211 jobs)
• Retail store manager jobs (9165 jobs)
• Retail consultant jobs (3,287 jobs)
• Retail merchandising jobs (1,575 jobs)
• Retail automotive jobs (282 jobs)
